Student Guidelines for Success
As your Superintendent I am committed to ensuring All schools have learning environments conducive to the growth and development of students and where students will learn to be contributing and successful members of our communities. It is with this goal in mind that students and parents are encouraged to work with teachers and principals to support the values of good citizenship.
Information contained in the Student Guidelines for Success will provide students with a summary of student conduct expected in school and at all school sponsored events. The handbook identifies behaviors as well as consequences that could be imposed in the event of misconduct. In addition, you will find information concerning the rights of students to equal educational opportunities, freedom from bullying, and access to student records.
SUCCESS depends on each of our student’s ability to gain from the various educational opportunities available and each student helping others achieve their goals by maintaining a positive learning environment in school. District policies and school rules on student conduct define such an environment in school. Students who become aware of student misconduct and situations that threaten to disrupt the educational process or threaten the safety of students and staff are expected to alert their teachers or the school principal of such incidents. Each student, as well as each staff member and school administrator, is responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly school. We all need each other to achieve this environment.Your support of these guidelines is critical to the overall success of our students.

I. Introduction
Welcome to the Bibb County School District’s Student Guidelines for Success. This document, formerly titled The Code of Conduct, is intended to provide students with an outline of expected behaviors for student success. It is the goal of the Bibb County School District to provide an effective and safe learning environment. Students and their parents need to know and understand these guidelines in order to complete a successful year in school.
These Student Guidelines for Success have been substantially revised from years past in order to provide students and families with a more user-friendly and understandable expectation for student behavior.
II. Student Expectations
It is the expectation of the Bibb County School District that students should:
Participate fully in the learning process. Students need to report to school and class on time, attend all regularly scheduled classes, remain in class until excused or dismissed, pay attention to instruction, complete assignments to the best of their ability, and ask for help when needed.
Avoid behavior that impairs their own or other students’ educational achievement. Students
should know and avoid the behaviors prohibited by these Guidelines, take care of books and other instructional materials, and cooperate with others.
Show respect for the knowledge and authority of teachers, administrators, and other school
employees as well as the rights of other students. Students must demonstrate courtesy and respect for others and the educational environment. They should obey directions, use acceptable and courteous language, avoid being rude or disruptive, and follow school rules and procedures.
These expectations apply to student behavior during school hours, at school-related functions, on school buses, and at school bus stops. In addition, the School District reserves the right to take disciplinary action for any off-campus misconduct that disrupts the school environment, puts the safety of our students and staff at risk, or which otherwise falls within the jurisdiction of the School District as established by law.
